What does this verse mean?

it indulges in the possibilites of the things that something, in this case the woodpecker, and the wolf, want to happen. The woodpecker wants its work made easier and the wolf wants a meal and companionship? [but im not sure how its food is to be a companion! lol] its beautiful i like it very much
