You most definitely are visible,but here is the key to not becoming the party wallflower! As someone has already suggested make eye contact with people because that is a quality employers like in an employee plus if you catch someone in eye contact then they are snared like deers in headlights. Make it a practice to try and find something positive about members of the people around you - like wow that is a gorgeous necklace you have on where did you get it? or to guys you can ask if they have been working out lately because they really look buff. Try to know about a recent event to bring up in topic like - Hey, you all what did you think about the downed plane in the Hudson or did anybody know that John Travolta's son might have suffered some mild autism or mental handicap? They say he died of a seizure but they are closing the books real fast on this one because his parents have already cremated his body! Do you think that strange that their belief system in the Church of Scientology might have been keeping him from getting proper medical care? Those are just a few ice breakers from recent news events but people always have opinions about just about everything. Try to engage in the conversations going on around you. You mentioned that you are ped over in the meet n' greet phase so be the first to open up the lines of communication by saying, "Hi, Sally, Tom...nice to see you what is new with you all...anyone seen any really good movies lately? Don't fabricate lies to impress people because you are correct if they think you are a bag of wind then they will not take you seriously. Shy people have to make a little more effort to overcome this handicap, but I am sure you can figure ways to get involved so that you won't be left out of the group. If the mountain won't come to you then you must go to the mountain = figure out your own method of greeting people first rather than waiting for validation. Keep good eye contact while speaking to a person, and just make a ping run at news on your web homepage. You have nothing to lose by being ertive and everything to gain! Try to be a fun upbeat person. Find out what your friends normally like to talk about and be an informed contributor. I have faith you will get the hang of it!
