My calf muscles keep twitching!!!!?

About 7 months ago i went through some extreme bereavement-related stress and since then my calf muscles have been twitching 24/7. This obviously freaked me out even more but my doctor says its just down to the stress. Can stress really make your muscles twitch? And if so, why does it happen?
